What a 14" delivery chain box is built for

We cut open a 14-inch delivery-chain box and looked at what it does and what it deliberately skips.

Fig. 1 — Teardown · USA box, scored and laid flat for measuring.

The print stops short of the edges — on purpose

The top of this box carries a full-colour brand print, but it never reaches the score lines. That is not a cost cut; it is a crease decision. Ink and coating on a fold line crack when the box is erected, so the press stops the artwork a few millimetres before the crease and leaves a clean board channel for the fold.

There are no vents, and that is a choice

A delivery chain wants the box to keep heat in, not let it out. Steam vents would dry the pizza on the way to the door, so this box has none. The trade-off — a slightly softer base — is accepted because the box is eaten within thirty minutes.

Board and flute

E-flute, food-grade, single wall. Thin enough to fold flat and stack high on the line, strong enough to survive the bag. The corners are full-height, which is where most of the stacking strength actually comes from.
